This is my story
Hi! I’m Javiera Varas, the designer behind this children’s home collection. I’ve been a Production Designer for film and TV for over 20 years, I’ve worked on several Academy Awarded movies and with various high profile talent. I love the ephemeral nature of film, and I also love the physicality of materials, mixing the right textures, materials and colors to the very specific spaces that give life to stories and characters. With this home collection I’m excited to bridge the gap of film and the tangible world, bringing the same level of carefully crafted narrative that is built into each of the sets I shape to your own home.
The beginning
My journey began with a simple yet profound belief, that narrative and storytelling enriches a child’s world. There’s an opportunity in every single piece that surrounds a child to learn a story, to expand their curiosity and acquire a new visual vocabulary.
I wanted to pass on my love for my Andean roots to my New York born child and narrate through home pieces what some of those stories look like. Instead of pages, my script is woven in textiles or carved in wood other times, yet always at the heart is the narration of a story that aims to enrich and inspire.
How the collection is produced
I work exclusively with materials that are both kind to children and the planet, both sustainable and high quality, labored by people in fair working conditions only. My aim is to produce small batches with low footprints that will outlast trends.
